  Stranger Things and The Walking Dead both represent gender, age and class in a way that would appeal to their target audience to encourage them to continue watching. Stranger Things represents gender in a very different way to traditional views. This is achieved through the way that Eleven’s character is presented. In the first episode, Eleven is shown to have powers and is able to take down men that were trying to capture her. This shows that she is a strong female lead who contradicts the idea of gender theory where females are presented to be either domestic, marital, sexual or consumers. However, in the Walking Dead, Carol’s character first begins off very weak with an abusive husband (shows her to be marital and domestic), and then as her character develops throughout various seasons, she becomes very independent and is involved in resolving a lot of the disruptions (narrative structure).   This is very similar to Eleven as they both go against the stereotypical viewpoint of w

  Different newspapers in the UK will likely be either left wing or right wing and represent their ideologies in the way they choose to present each story. This means that the same story could be completely different in different newspapers. The first newspaper cover represents right-wing ideologies which means that it will appeal to a right-wing audience as they will likely agree with what it is saying. This means that they are likely to have a preferred reading as they have the same views as what is being presented. It’s main coverline says ‘HANDS OFF OUR ELECTION’ which shows possession over our country which could be seen as quite patriotic and traditional which is what corresponds with the right-wing beliefs. This creates a binary opposition of good and evil, portraying Britain as the good and the rest of Europe as bad.   I strongly agree that multiple narrative strands are a key convention of long form television dramas. Throughout the first episode of Stranger Things, they begin multiple narrative strands that are then developed on throughout. This includes things such as Will going missing, Eleven escaping and the alien escaping also. In terms of Will going missing, we reach a point where the characters have recognition of the event (classic Hollywood narrative structure). They don’t reach a point of resolution for this narrative (him being found) as this would then mean that there is no reason for the audience to continue watching the other episodes if everything has been resolved in the first one. This then means that the audience are intrigued into what will happen next thus meaning they carry on watching which is what makes the show successful. This in turn can lead to social interaction between people who watch it to try and figure out what will happen.   As part of these narrative strands

  On the front cover of the Big Issues it shows Trump next to the world. They have represented Trump to be big headed as shown by the way they have edited his head to be significantly out of proportion with his body. Trump supports right wing views, so it suggests that the reader of this magazine is left wing (labour) and are likely to read this text in a preferred reading (reception theory). This also explains why they choose to make fun out of him in this way because they don’t have the same views, so the reader is likely to dislike him. The headline of the magazine says ‘what’s the worst that could happen’ which suggests quite a sarcastic tone that could be referring to Trump believing that what he is doing is right and the readers know that it is likely to go bad. In terms of cultural representation, it shows Putin riding an eagle. The eagle is a symbol of America and Putin is a threat to America so the combination of the two suggests that Putin is likely to cause problems for th

  The Jungle Book was already previously created in 1967 as an animation. This meant that it already has its primary target audience that then become the secondary target audience of the new one as it is not aimed at adults but more older kids (10+) but because they have seen the original, they would likely be interested to watch this one. This is because they have already seen it as a child and are likely going to want to watch it for nostalgia and escapism (uses and gratifications theory). This allows them to reach a wider target audience than the original as they already have the secondary audience established. The primary target audience however, shifted from a younger audience to a slightly older audience due to the mature scenes that wouldn’t be suitable for a younger audience. This means that the older audience is likely to appeal to this film more as they wouldn't see it as another children film that wouldn't entertain them as much (uses and gratifications theory). As t

  In this essay, I’m going to investigate how audience interaction influences the production of video games. I am going to use evidence from Minecraft in my answer. Minecraft first began with a very niche audience that was mainly made for programmers to mess around with. These players were then playing it for entertainment and had fun playing the game (uses and gratifications theory). They would then be likely to share this with their friends and encourage them to start playing it as social interaction. This then acts as free advertisement for the game to get more players and in turn make them more profit from sales which then leads to it getting more popular and thus more players. With an increase in platforms such as YouTube, players then began to become prosumers by uploading their creations for other people to try to copy or just watch for entertainment. They may then discuss what they think could be improved in the game and the developers can then take this into consideration
